The South Strand

Dublin

The design responds to the history of the site as a grand working docklands, re-imagining the qualities of light, space and material from the 19th C docklands into familiar entities of a public house.

The bar incorporates sand cast Iron panels and columns proposed to be bespoke forged by the Ballantine forge, a company dating back to the 1820’s; who’s work can be seen all over Dublin today, including the famous Ballantine street lamps.

The carpet design invokes the area past though overlays of dark  and warm colours with the pattern generating familiar memories of 19th C Dublin city.

kdpa proposed artwork includes a series of reclaimed cast iron coal drop covers, each individually designed and often representing a company name.

A reclaimed feature panelled ceiling provides some Victorian grandeur suspended above the main ground floor area and bespoke lighting combine to offer up a warm, welcoming modern take on the traditional dockside pub.
