The Sir Samuel Romilly
Barry

The pub is named after Sir Samuel Romilly of the Romilly family, due to him having such a great impact on establishing and building the seaside town. We extended three tired shops where the third shop unit was demolished and converted into a  beer garden. A large area of the first floor was also converted into a spacious staff area.

The approach to the beer garden scheme was developed from the town and buildings history, to create a Victorian style secret garden. Bringing life back to the high street with contrasting green tones softening the hard materials and an abundance of raised flower beds, lush foliage and pergolas.

The existing interior area was enhanced through a refreshing colour scheme, lightening the once gloomy pub whilst still preserving the cosy spaces with deep rich tones.

The extended customer area creates a bright and spacious dining area with large windows and charming views to the garden. This space also brings together various elements of Barrys history, through a feature carpet dedicated to the towns prestigious Armorial Bearings, and historic artistic creations from the early 1900s, telling the story of Barrys coal exporting, locomotive and holiday resort past.
