The Silver Penny

In a prestigious location at the heart of Dublin kdpa were asked to convert two prominent listed buildings into a single venue that would offer a unique food and beverage experience. Sitting directly opposite the world-famous Abbey Theatre kdpa worked with conservation specialists to sensitively convert the former bank and adjacent chapel into two distinctive dining spaces.

The bank interior reflected the opulence and refinery of the original Italianate style building. By contrast the simpler details found in the chapel and the abundance of daylight from a new opening glass roof contrast and compliment the opulence of next door. The varied interiors encourage customers to explore and gravitate to their favourite location within these two magnificent and historic buildings.

The harp has long been a symbol of Ireland. It first featured on Irish coins in the reign of Henry VIII around 1534. During the 17th and 18th centuries the harp became adorned with progressively more decoration, ultimately becoming a ‘winged maiden’.
