The Prince of Wales
Cardiff
Just a short walk from Cardiff Castle, this pub takes its name from the theatre which previously occupied these premises. It opened in 1878 as the Theatre Royal, and was renamed the Prince of Wales in 1935.
Theatre decoration internally was often of bold design, celebrating the stage and performance. The low lighting levels allowed controlled glimpses of the décor that surrounded the audience. Our proposal aimed to revive the celebration of the ornate interior and re-address the colour palette to enhance the experience and ambience of a public house.
Alongside the redecoration, we introduced a new back bar at ground floor level with a new over bar. A new carpet and bar walk tiles, together with additional booth seating and refurbished furniture on both the ground and first floor complete the customer area.
