The Forty Foot
Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
Following the success of a previous hospitality venture in Dublin, KDPA were tasked with converting a former nightclub into a new bar restaurant. Redefining both the image and the outlook of this prominent site was a key factor in revitalising the site.
Located on the High ground of Dun Laoghaire, overlooking Dublin Bay, our Strategy for this development required a full reorganisation of the building, exposing the abundance of natural surrounding qualities and strengthening the relationship between the site topography, the building and the waterfront location.
Inside, the stripped back steel structure revealed connotations of a typical Victorian industrial building type, still commonly found in Dublin. Evocative of a time passed when the bay would have been alive with ships, this provided a narrative for a series of reclaimed materials to form the basis of the interior proposal
A generously proportioned central staircase invites exploration of the upper floor and loggia, where spectacular elevated views across the harbour await.
A KDPA designed feature pendant crafted from timbers of a Clinker boat, straddles the two floors as a reminder of the bay’s history.
