The Butler’s Bell
Stafford

Kdpa designed The Butler’s Bell as a contemporary bar. Named after an historic ironmonger who produced brassware including ‘butlers bells’ for well appointed premises, the bar was conceptualised as a bold interpretation of just such a grand house.

Using a fresh palette of contemporary finishes, the interior describes a sumptuous front of house juxtaposed with a more minimal pared back design indicative of the servant’s quarters towards the rear. Within this design framework important aspects of Stafford’s history and industrial heritage are referenced and incorporated using the same contemporary design language.

A feature glass wall which divides the areas contains over a hundred & fifty plaster casts of an original ladies shoe manufactured by local company Lotus. The replication of a single object in true ‘Andy Warhol’ fashion reflects the mass production of an industry synonymous with the area since the 15th Century. Original photographs of the Queen Mother visiting Lotus’s factory were framed and hung adjacent to the display adding further provenance to this installation.
